An extraordinary year like 2020 deserves extraordinary initiatives - and that's exactly what the residents at Cosmopolis have been up to! The evening of 12th December 2020 witnessed spellbinding performances, as residents shared their various talents in an evening organized by the Cosmopolis Ladies Club & Welfare and Club & Cultural Sub-Committee CRWA. The evening was filled with over 20 eclectic dance & music performances by children, youngsters and adults of Cosmopolis. The audience was held captive by the power-packed dance performances put together by children individually as well as well-synchronized groups. A number of in-house talented singers too enthralled their listeners with their soulful renditions of some Hindi & Odia classics. For the first time in the history of this residential society, residents came together to showcase their talents and put together such a beautiful and memorable evening. Given the overwhelmingly positive response, the evening of 12th December is surely the first of many such culturally rich evenings at Cosmopolis.
A musical evening of vocal and instrumental music was organised on 1st Nov. to celebrate Kumar Purnima - a festival of delight for young girls. Performances from Shri Dhrutimay Behera, the main vocalist and his small group comprising of accompanying artists on tabla and keyboard mesmerised the audiences with their soulful rendition of Hindi and Odia classics. Our own residents Shri Prasant Padhy and Arundhati Bose pitched in with their beautiful renditions- former on his mouth organ and latter a semi classical vocal. The moonlight and a slight nip in the air further enhanced the experience for those present. The evening came as a respite after months of being deprived of any public cultural event, and was well received.
Lilting, lyrical notes of the flute floated up from the Cosmopolis amphitheatre piercing the hushed, cool evening of 27th October 2020.
Parshuram Das (one of Odisha's premier flautists, who has performed at the Konark Festival, Odissi Mahotsav as well as overseas) was accompanied by Sachin Kumar Rath on the tabla and Sanjay Kumar Behera on the keyboard. Their rendition of Shyam Teri Bansi Pukare Radha Naam, along with other compositions, held the audience spellbound.
At a time when Covid 19 has relegated entertainment to screens, live music performances are hard to come by. An evening of music like this - staged quite literally in one's own backyard - is indeed a rare treat. And a welcome escape from the dreariness of pandemic life - soothing the mind and uplifting the soul.
CRWA Club and Cultural Subcommittee and Cosmopolis Ladies Club and Welfare (CLCW) organized a Pre-Diwali Musical Evening on 13th November 2020. The office bearers of CLCW welcomed the audience to the spectacular evening of lights and music. It was an evening filled with ghazals, odia songs, old and new hindi bollywood songs sung by the singers of a musical troupe. Residents also participated to enthrall the audience like Ms Rishita Chakraborty danced to the tunes of Bollywood and Dr Lisa Sarangi filled the air with her melodious voice.
